As you know, the issue is two-sided. We want capable, experienced representatives, but with all the dealings and comprimises it takes to be a good representative, integrity is tarnished after a while. Shorter terms would also mean more power for the political parties vs. the representatives.
My thoughts are that it's worth a try, but there may be no definitive answer to congressional term limits except communism, monarchy, or technocratic democracy (every american spends 30 minutes a week voting on bills online, with representatives' involvement limited to introducing them to the floor).
dookie, what are your thoughts on imposing term limitations for Senators?
I never was crazy about the ethics of any long-term senator, but I hope he gets a few good years of retirement.
Alright! yay! yippy! yahoo! lets all us conservatives! all jump on Ted and call him all sorts of names! and celebrate he`s going to die! the way Liberal slim bags! do on conservatives Like Charlton Heston!
No! casue us conservatives have class! unlike slime bag Liberals!
I saw him about two years ago at the Boston airport. It struck me what a sad, tired, old man he has become. I won't rejoice when he dies, but it will be good to see him leave public service.
You can despise a man's politics without despising the man....
Even Bush managed to say: "a man of tremendous courage, remarkable strength and powerful spirit." He added: "We join our fellow Americans in praying for his full recovery."
this is very sad news and I, as well, wish the Senator a longer and better life with many more years to come; and I do hope heaven opens wide when he arrives.
However, we cannot ignore this Senator's reckless, life-long career of destroying the moral fiber of this country:
Voted yes on late-term abortion.
Voted no on an amendment to prohibit flag burning.
Voted no on declaring English as the official language of the U.S. government.
Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
In 2006 he was one of the 16 senators who voted against the Vitter Amendment, which prohibited the confiscation of legally-possessed firearms during a disaster.
Senator Kennedy has opposed additional Alaska oil drilling. However, he opposes the Cape Wind turbine project which would occur near his home.
Senator Kennedy is one of only five senators who have publicly announced support for same-sex marriage.
Senator Kennedy introduced legislation to prohibit employment discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Voted no on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage.
Voted yes on loosening restrictions on cell phone wiretapping.
Unlike libs who routinely wish death to those with whom they disagree, I wish the Senator a long and healthy retirement.

Can you imagine people voting on bills online? Most of the representatives haven't even read the the bills on which they are voting. That sounds crazy.
